PILATES AND JOINT TENSION

A very relevant scientific article:

Blandine Calais Germain, 2005; Gallagher and Kryzanowska, 2000; Joseph Pilates 1945; Jurvelin J,

et al, 1986:
In Pilates practice, the scapula serves as an anchor point for the arm muscles during arm movements. This is why it must be fixed. In this way, it avoids rapid fatigue of the neck muscles and, in the long term, it prevents wear and tear of the supraspinatus tendon.
The current practice of Pilates consists of a placement of the spine respecting the natural curves of the latter. Indeed, "If the spine is aligned vertically (with respect to the curvatures), the weight (...) leads to an approximately equal compression of the disc in all parts of the disc. (...) In this way the disc can support large loads without damage".
Pilates is a method of working with muscle chains that allows the joints to be locked in place, which promotes the maintenance of cartilage and other joint structures.
