PILATES AND BACK PAIN
Here is a scientific article about Pilates and lower back pain
Brent D. Anderson, 2005
80% of the population suffers from low back pain at some time. Of these, 20% become chronic (permanent) pain. Pilates is an excellent way to rehabilitate this pain, as it is an active form of therapy. Pilates contributes to the improvement of movement control, confidence in movement, development of flexibility through physical (strengthening of certain muscles) and mental management (possibility of movement, reduction of fear of pain...). The fact that the subject is an actor in his rehabilitation is an important factor in rehabilitation.
The development of the core muscles (abdominal muscles - the centre of the body) allows the stabilisation of the pelvis and the lumbar region during exercise, which protects it from pain. A deficit in the activation of the multifidus and transverse muscles is often the cause of pain.
